12 Miles of Digital Wire in one home? Believe it.
Employee Spotlight: Dan Pena

March is quickly upon us.

This new year is flying by. We are seeing an upsurge in residential audio/video remodel work, while the  traditional new luxury home construction segment continues to be rather slow. Our commercial practice is quite busy responding to large scale educational facility audio/video proposal and corporate relocation projects.

APS Solutions for Business Program

We are pleased to announce our recent partnering with Arizona power provider APS in its Trade Ally program. This program utilizes approved contractors to perform energy saving enhancements to commercial buildings. APS rebates a significant portion of the improvement costs. Digital has been approved by APS in the area of: "lighting control engineering and design."

Major bank uses Digital's design and engineering resource.

Digital recently completed work on a schematic design and engineering construction plans for a large national bank. The multi floor "landmark" high rise office project contains the latest office space technologies in digital displays, white boards, audio/video collaboration tools, and office automation. Lighting, video upscaling, and office automation will operate on a Crestron platform, with easily accessible touch pads throughout the multi floor suite. Several video walls will provide multi feed sources to various war room locations. The project employs advanced video collaboration (aka video conferencing) tools from Cisco. The Cisco TelePresence system is the jewel of the video conferencing solution. Telepresence creates live, "face to face" experiences over the network, empowering you to collaborate like never before.

12 Miles of Digital Wire in one home? Believe it.

Digital began prewire services on a 20,000 square foot estate home in the Phoenix area.  Using triple the number of technicians that normally to do the work, Digital went to work pulling twelve miles of combined phone, data, audio/video, automation and security/surveillance wire throughout  the home. "While twelve miles of cabling may sound like a lot, it's  consistent for a home of this magnitude" says Thomas Bechtel, of Digital Home Lifestyles... "This home requires various levels of technology to operate the subsystems. Interconnections, both wired and wireless, form the behind-the-scenes nervous system that serves as the system backbone." Once prewire is complete, and the drywall goes up, the Digital team performs a final integrity test on the wires before final connection and commissioning of audio/video source equipment.

Digital completes residential 8G prewire. What exactly is 8G?
Employee Spotlight: Thomas Bechtel.

Happy New Year!

It was a mad rush for most folks to complete gift lists or to prepare their homes for guests. For Digital, it was an intense effort to respond to our client's last minute technology upgrades and  end-of-year budgeted  equipment purchases. Lighting control, home automation, and wireless music systems topped the charts. Our commercial practice, Digital Commercial Systems, has seen a considerable increase in proposals. Looks like the new year is off to a great start.

Relax, and leave the black boxes to us!

What's your fancy?...iPad®, iPhone®, Andriod®, PC, MacBook®, Universal Remote Control?  You may know your chosen application hosting device well, but be careful attempting to make that leap to getting those controllers to play with functional hardware.

The "behind the scenes" black boxes are where the real work gets done.    They are the heart and soul  of a  home automation platform where the world of digital commands intersect with a complex world of operating shades, playing music,  controlling temperature, locking doors, changing video sources, controlling lighting scenes, heating the pool, panning cameras, setting alarm systems, etc. To the casual observer, all you'll see is black electronic components, blinking lights and the hummmm of the thermal management systems.

Automation has hit the mainstream. Typically the customer is drawn almost entirely to the interface. (iPad as example). On the physical installation side, the professional integrator has to be confident and comfortable with the "black boxes".  It takes hands-on experience to weed out what works and what does not.  It is our value added service to understand the digital lifestyles of our clients while providing the best equipment choices to fulfill both their functional expectations and budgets. This is what we do...every working day. Why guess at black box configurations? Instead select a respected integrator, and leave the black boxes to a pro. You'll be glad you did!

Digital Completes 8G residential prewire. What the heck is 8G?

High-end OEM Crestron, the world's leading manufacturer of advanced control and automation systems, has launched Digital Media 8G technology. To the point, 8G is the first  true one-wire, high-output media network.

So why is this important to me?  DigitialMedia 8G makes it easy to enjoy all the rich media benefits of digital content, including razor-sharp HD video, streaming Internet content, Blu-ray Disc™, Apple® Mac® and MacBook®, as well as the latest high-performance surround sound audio formats...all over a single wire. Imagine the reduced clutter and reduced expense of having less wire in your home or office! 8G saves integrators a lot of time and money, significantly reducing material and labor costs of cabling and the number of terminations

Digital Home Lifestyles has completed a recent home automation prewire project utilizing 8G technology.  The details: 12,000 square foot custom home, featuring a "whole

house" Crestron automation platform controlling Audio, Video, Security, Surveillance, Lighting, Pool/spa, Security gate, Intercom, and Climate control.

Value Engineering: Getting more for less
Digital completes the Legacy Ballroom
Employee Spotlight: Glenn Peacock

Happy Holidays.

It's been a busy holiday season. On the commercial side, we have completed several exciting high profile projects. Our residential clients are showing renewed interest in whole-house music systems, surround sound upgrades, lighting automation, and general purpose iPad home automation applications.  We are hearing more and more "Do it for me"...Our clients want to maximize their time usage, and want systems that are fully integrated, programmed and installed.

Value Engineering: Getting more for less

Making a decision on buying home technology can be a daunting effort.  There are endless choices, and a vastly wide range of price points. The key is to find the right combination of functionality, performance and value.

Most of our clients don't buy technology often (especially for a new home).  The customer typically educates themselves on the latest products, then attempts to place value on each aspect of the purchase. It's a confusing but necessary process. At Digital, we remove the confusion. We use a method known as 'value engineering' to make sense of the purchase. This is a collaborative process that combines our product knowledge, installation experience, and the customer's direct input on what's important.

Value-based engineering produces a high degree of assurance in meeting the clients functional, performance and economical goals.  The result offers the customer meaningful alternatives, and keeps their primary goals front and center.

One way to think about this process is to imagine two dials that we can turn.  One dial represents performance (or function), the other price.  Our objective is to find the right combination of both.  This is the formula for successful technology projects which finds that sweet spot between price AND performance. More than just a process at Digital, value engineering is at the core of our "philosophy" in understanding our customer's needs. The result...Happy clients!
